Calvin Ayre: Bitcoin Cash is a movement

To say that the global cryptocurrency community has been buzzing lately would be an understatement.

For the month of March alone, more than 60 Bitcoin and blockchain-related events have been held in virtually all parts of the globe, including TOKEN2049 Conference in Hong Kong and the highly acclaimed Satoshi’s Vision Conference in Tokyo, Japan.

Though they were held in the same week, the two events had very different focus. Antiguan entrepreneur Calvin Ayre, who attended both conferences, described ICO-focused Token2049 as “a multi-level marketing conference,” whereas Satoshi’s Vision “focused on making fundamental changes to the society.”

“[Satoshi’s Vision Conference] is very much about how Bitcoin specifically, but cryptocurrencies in general, could change the world… The people here are really focused on making fundamental changes to the society, whereas the conference that we just had [attended] in Hong Kong, it felt like a multi-level marketing conference. There’s a bunch of people that were there mainly… working on some get-rich-quick schemes or what not,” Ayre said. “This conference here [in Tokyo] is the real deal, and I think in the years ahead, we’ll see a lot more conferences like this one.”

Ayre is a huge supporter of Bitcoin Cash. As part of his deeper involvement in all things Bitcoin, Ayre has been putting his time, effort and financial resources into projects—including Lokad’s Terab Project, Electron Cash, Cash Shuffle Group’s BCH ‘Mixer’ tool, and a Bitcoin Cash tokenization contest—that expand Bitcoin’s reach and acceptance, which begs the question: why?

“Somebody’s got to do it,” Ayre said. “I think Roger Ver kind of summed it up. This project is more than just a company, it’s a movement. I’m a big believer in it myself, and I got the financial resources so I want to seed a few things that I think are good for the greater community.”

Conduit for merchant community

CoinGeek, a part of the Ayre Media Group, is organizing its very own conference in May—an event that will bring together the brightest and most dedicated minds behind cryptocurrency. Unlike the Satoshi’s Vision Conference, which focused on the evolution of the platform, Ayre said the upcoming CoinGeek.com Conference will center on merchant adoption.

“I’m also working on positioning [CoinGeek] conference because of the fact that we’re dovetailing it to come just a few days after the next fork in BCH, which is May 15… the next fork in BCH is going to be November 15, and so we’re hoping that we can have our next conference on the 29th of November,” Ayre said. “We hope by having our conferences around the same time as these forks, that we can become a conduit for the merchant community back into the platform developers, so that there can be better communication between the two.”

The inaugural CoinGeek.com Conference, which will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong on May 18, is shaping up to be a landmark event tackling merchant adoption and providing education on the benefits of Bitcoin Cash.

“I think Bitcoin Cash, which is the one true Bitcoin, is going to become the dominant global public blockchain, the one chain that can do it all and everything will be on it,” Ayre said.

Registration for the CoinGeek.com Conference is now open with a 50% discount for those paying in BCH, but credit card payments are also welcome.

Note: Tokens in the SegWit chain are referred to as SegWit-Coin BTC (inaccurately called Bitcoin Legacy or Core by many) and SegWit Gold (SWG) and are no longer Bitcoin. Fear and Loathing in Seoul – Samson Mow and Vitalik Buterin exposed!

I recently attended three back-to-back cryptocurrency events. An ICO-focused one in HK, then Satoshi Vision in Tokyo and now I am at the Deconomy-branded ICO event in Seoul. I had intended to write an article about my experience that focused on the overall cheesiness of the ICO space. However, yesterday I got to see Segwit thought leader Samson Mow and Ethereum ‘founder’ Vitalik Buterin up close and, frankly, was shocked at what I saw.

First some background. The first event in HK was just as cheesy as I expected. nChain’s Dr. Craig Wright, who most consider one of the premier thought leaders in crypto today, was a speaker. His presentation could be viewed as a bit angry, as he is prone to getting angry when forced to listen to the nonsense that passes for science in our industry, but I found his talk impassioned and technically strong.

Mostly, the aspiring ICO CEO’s did not even come in to listen to Wright, choosing instead to mill around in the hall discussing – what else – their upcoming ICOs. After all, why wouldn’t anyone be more interested in talking up such truly inspired ideas as a coin that can be used to purchase sex (though why a sex worker would want to take a coin that could only be used to have sex with another hooker is beyond me). The event had the feel of an old school multilevel marketing event and I was hard pressed to find anyone interesting to talk to. This event confirmed my opinion that ICOs are essentially scams.

SATOSHI VISION
Next up I attended the Satoshi Vision event put on by Bitcoin Unlimited. Though not a top-tier group from a thought-leadership perspective in my opinion (they are too academic and not practical enough and they talk too much trash on the internet against others in the space), the event they produced was pretty good. My only complaint was that it should have been half the size…too many speakers who added nothing and killed me to sit through.

This event was all about evolving the Bitcoin platform to become the world’s dominant public blockchain. Trouble is, Bitcoin BCH is the one true Bitcoin and the only platform that conforms with the original Satoshi White Paper. It’s also the only true cryptocurrency and therefore the only technology that can do low-cost, fast and secure micro-transactions.

As Roger Ver said in his speech at this event, this will be the technology that brings financial freedom to billions in the developing world and also fuels the Internet of Things (machine to machine commerce). All in all, I found this event had most of the true thought-leaders in the space in one spot.

Besides Ver, the event featured Amaury Sechet of Bitcoin ABC, Joannes Vermorel of Lokad, Clemens Lee of Yours.org and, of course, nChain’s Dr. Wright, whose presentation can be viewed here. Real people solving real problems.

DECONOMY 2018
Next, I hopped on a plane to Seoul for Deconomy 2018, an event that seemed similar to Satoshi Vision but had representatives of two other platforms, Segwit Technology and Ethereum.

Day one of the event promised a Bitcoin BCH v. Segwit BTC showdown but day two was entirely devoted to Ethereum worship. So I wasn’t surprised that all conversations by anyone not directly aligned with Segwit or Bitcoin immediately drifted to ICO talk. The exception was the one lonely Ripple presenter.

On day one, I listed to a few speeches but didn’t find much to hold my attention so I waited until the big keynote faceoff at the end of the day. The speakers were Samson Mow, Roger Ver and Dr. Wright, each of whom was given 30 minutes to argue his case.

This was capped by a 30-minute debate between Mow and Ver on the subject of Bitcoin scaling. Why Dr. Wright was not on this panel was a mystery to me as he was in the room and is one of the world leaders in Bitcoin scaling technology.

Mow’s speech was low key and mostly about his views on the history of money (not shared by many). It also had a pitch for his Segwit and sidechain technologies. Ver’s presentation detailed his view of what the economic freedom Bitcoin can offer will mean for the world. He also outlined the damage Mow’s Blockstream had done to Bitcoin. Last up was Dr. Wright, who set out to correct the record on areas where he believes the Segwit technology controllers (mostly Mow and his company Blockstream) are spreading technical misinformation. (You can view Dr. Wright’s speech here.)

But things got really interesting during the debate. Right in front of my eyes, Mow did all the things everyone has accused Blockstream and Core developers of doing on the internet. He got into some petty name-calling, and kept referring to Bitcoin as BCash. Roger did a strong job of laying out his grievances in this space and clearly won the debate, in my opinion.

And then, things got crazy. They opened up the floor to questions and Mow insisted that the last question go to Vitalik Buterin (who speaks on day two so was in the front row). Though Dr. Wright had not mentioned Buterin or Ethereum in his presentation, this was Buterin’s question:

“Why do we allow people like Craig Wright to speak at a conference like this?” Buterin then suggested that Dr. Wight’s university degrees are not real.

The question was shocking enough, but more shocking was Mow publicly agreeing to this call for censorship. Censorship of others’ opinions is exactly what Blockstream and Core stand accused of by many – including directly by Roger in his debate – and here was Mow, in front of the entire crowd, advocating for the silencing of someone’s voice.

Dr. Wright, who was also in the front row, declined to dignify this childish display with a response. You will note the editors of the official video purged Buterin’s question, so you have to take my word for this, as I was in the room.

I have known Dr. Wright for three years now and have been to his home in London for dinner on several occasions. During one of the dinners, I was able to look through all his university degree certificates and can attest that they are all real. I also know he is working on his third PhD in law at a university in Paris right now. See for yourself in this wheelbarrow and then ask yourself: why would a 24-year-old university dropout be criticizing an industry thought-leader, who had just given a speech that did not mention Ethereum or Buterin, about his university degrees?

The answer, as is usually the case, boils down to money and power. Earlier in the day, nChain CEO Jimmy Nguyen was also on a panel. As I said above, all discussions went immediately to ICOs. So Jimmy mentioned a number of times that by the end of the year smart contracts and ICOs will be able to be done on the Bitcoin BCH chain.

I know this to be true as over 50 groups have applied to be in the contest to do this and both Lokad in Paris and nChain themselves are also working on solutions (nChain is working with SBI in Japan on this among other things). Craig is providing technical advice to everyone in the contest and to Lokad and SBI. If this happens there will be no reason for Ethereum to exist. BCH has superior technology and the capacity to add features from other platforms, meaning there will eventually be no need for other platforms. Just as there is no need for two internets, there does not need to be more than one payment platform and Bitcoin BCH is clearly the technically superior platform.

So basically what I was witnessing with my own eyes was the fear that the centrally-controlled Segwit and Ethereum platforms have for the person they believe is working to make them both obsolete. I already knew this, but I was still shocked by the immaturity on public display at this event. I doubt I was the only one in the audience that left there inspired to buy more Bitcoin BCH.

Over 50 teams sign up to put tokenization on Bitcoin BCH chain

More than 50 teams are taking on CoinGeek.com’s tokenization challenge, which will shape the next evolution of the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) blockchain.

After demonstrating that the vision contained in the original Satoshi Nakamoto white paper can be realized on the network, the next step for Bitcoin Cash is to move from being a simple cryptocurrency solution and become the cornerstone of a globally distributed economy. Tokenization is one of the key elements for opening up the Bitcoin Cash chain to support a broader range of transactions than simply payments in the native cryptocurrency. Digital tokens, typically executed with smart contracts, allow real-world assets to be represented within a blockchain transaction.

To achieve this, CoinGeek.com—along with blockchain technology research and development firm nChain Group—recently announced a design contest for a tokenization solution that runs on the Bitcoin BCH blockchain as well as its associated test networks. The available prize is £5 million worth of Bitcoin Cash.

“While it is our firm belief that BCH is the one true blockchain that will emerge out of all the FUD around cryptocurrencies right now we want to also ensure BCH has all the tools necessary to make that claim and more. Tokenization is another step on that journey as we create a ‘best of breed’ coin that has all the components of the original Satoshi white paper but also has the additional features that enhance BCH further still,” said CoinGeek.com owner Calvin Ayre.

The challenge requires participants to design a generic system, or suite of interacting systems that deliver: an issuer solution that permits an entity to securely create tokens, issue tokens to user’s wallets, redeem tokens from users, and securely destroy tokens back into the originating cryptocurrency at the end of that token’s life cycle; a user solution that either plugs into their existing cryptocurrency wallet or sits alongside the wallet, allowing the user to view, trade and redeem their holding; and an audit solution that allows a third party to securely and independently validate the status of all issued tokens on the blockchain.

All submissions need to include supporting design documentations, as well as a working code with the source codes. The solution is not required to involve the execution of a smart contract on the blockchain, but participants must demonstrate real-world use cases—such as in gaming and casino, company stocks, and even tickets—that manage a token from issuance to final destruction.

CoinGeek will provide access and licenses to use certain assets from nChain Group’s patent portfolio. The assets are limited for use on the Bitcoin Cash blockchain and participants can only use them for their design proposals. The solutions will be evaluated on how well their solution meets the objectives as well as their effectiveness in using nChain’s intellectual property assets. Participants, however, are not limited or required to use nChain’s assets as CoinGeek encourages creativity and new ideas.

CoinGeek takes Tokyo by storm to celebrate Satoshi’s Vision

CoinGeek.com, the cryptocurrency news site founded by Antiguan entrepreneur Calvin Ayre, recently flew to Japan for the Satoshi’s Vision conference and threw a party for its attendees.

With a fabulous view of the city lights at the heart of Shibuya in Tokyo, conference delegates were treated to a fun networking night, great music and overflowing drinks. Guests from over a dozen countries include big names in the cryptocurrency space, such as nChain CEO Jimmy Nguyen and Chief Scientist Dr. Craig Wright, Bitcoin.com CEO Roger Ver, Bitcoin Unlimited President Andrew Clifford, and Bitcoin ABC lead developer Amaury Séchet.

The networking night paved the way for the delegates to discuss the latest trends as well as developments the Bitcoin community has been working on. It also became an avenue for more entrepreneurs and investors to meet and explore the possibility of changing the world through the integration of Bitcoin Cash into their businesses.

“Finally, we have a Bitcoin party that brings Bitcoin back to what it really was meant to be—currency that you can use, something that you can spend, and the best place to store value,” said Antiguan entrepreneur Calvin Ayre, owner of CoinGeek.com.

The night was just a teaser of what’s going to happen at the CoinGeek Conference in May this year. The one-day event will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong, featuring presentations and panel discussions focusing on merchant adoption as well as the integration of Bitcoin Cash and blockchain technology into various areas of businesses.

The upcoming conference, which is also hosting an after-party courtesy of CoinGeek.com owner Calvin Ayre, is shaping up to be a landmark in merchant adoption and education in the benefits of Bitcoin BCH.  With its bigger blocks, faster speed, and lower transaction fees, Bitcoin BCH represents the truer vision of Bitcoin as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system.

Note: Tokens in the SegWit chain are referred to as SegWit1X (BTC) and SegWit Gold (SWG) and are no longer Bitcoin. Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is the only true Bitcoin as intended by the original Satoshi white paper.  Bitcoin BCH is the only public block chain that offers safe and cheap microtransactions.

Satoshi’s Vision Conference day 2 recap

The second day of the conference continued Saturday in Tokyo, Japan, with presentations around the future of the digital coin, Bitcoin Cash, the result of the hard fork from the legacy Bitcoin (BTC) chain in August 2017.

Keynote speaker Roger Ver, CEO of Bitcoin.com, talked about creating a decentralized cryptocurrency that gives economic freedom to the world. He explained economic freedom allows people to have the ability to make choices, which, in turn, will lead to higher per capita income and better income for the poorest 10%, improved environmental protection, higher literacy rates, less corruption and bribery, and people may even live longer.

The impact Bitcoin makes on economic freedom such as enabling people to establish businesses easier, promoting free trade, enforcing property rights and allowing people to opt out from corrupt systems were expounded during his speech. Ver believes that the best tools to achieve these goals are cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. He added, “I think Bitcoin Cash has the biggest chance of doing that because it has the Bitcoin name. It has almost all the early adopters of Bitcoin, all the people that made Bitcoin useful as a currency around the world, supporting it. It has the most stuff going on.”

Ver also took the time to address the censorship and the propaganda within the Bitcoin community. He said, “If you’re in favor of a censorship-resistant currency for the entire world to use to gain more economic freedom, you shouldn’t be using censorship to promote it. And that’s exactly what Bitcoin Core supporters have been doing which should be condemned by anybody who supports free speech.”

Ver also announced that Bitcoin.com will be dropping Bitcoin Core (SegwitCore) wallet and will only be making Bitcoin Cash wallet by default.

Following Satoshi’s Vision of a peer-to-peer electronic cash system, developers have been working on projects that will contribute to the growth of Bitcoin Cash. In an interview with Coingeek.com, Bitcoin ABC’s Amaury Sechet shared some of these projects that are also making progress such as the UTXO commitment work by Thomas van der Wansem. “That is very exciting,” Sechet said, “it’s going to allow very fast synchronization of new node on the network.”

Entrepreneur and staunch Bitcoin Cash supporter Calvin Ayre, who’s producing his own conference in May, was also present in the event and shared his forecast on the future of Bitcoin Cash.

“I think Bitcoin Cash, which is the one true Bitcoin as outlined in the Satoshi’s white paper, is going to become the dominant global public blockchain. The one chain that can do it all. Everything will be on it,” he said.

Party like a rock star with Bitcoin Cash

Do you like to party? Are you into cryptocurrencies (specifically Bitcoin Cash)? Then get ready for the greatest fusion since chocolate met peanut butter.

CoinGeek.com, the cryptocurrency news site founded by Calvin Ayre (pictured above right), recently invited some special guests to party with the site’s staff in Bangkok, Thailand, ahead of the Satoshi’s Vision Conference in Tokyo that got under way on March 23.

The party, which was held at the SO Sofitel Bangkok Hotel, was organized by BB Experience, a group that has established itself as the go-to organizers of memorable events that, like their name, must be experienced to be truly appreciated.

BB Experience has been around since 2011 and have put on literally thousands of insanely memorable events at hotspots around the globe for a variety of high net-worth clients. But crypto fans will be interested to learn that the group has now begun accepting payments in Bitcoin Cash (BCH).

The CoinGeek group took full advantage of this new payment channel, happily transferring BCH 16.5320791 (roughly US$15k at the time of payment) to BB Experience, who quickly got to work plotting a bespoke event that met Calvin’s requirements.

The BB Experience crew had their work cut out for them, as gaming industry professionals know all too well that Calvin Ayre is no slouch in the party-planning arena. No less an authority than Playboy magazine described his 49th birthday bash as “a surreal party with a bizarre mix of post-apocalyptic characters, statuesque European models, midgets and live pigs.”

The Bangkok party featured no live pigs, but did feature models whose impressive torsos served as the most elegant serving dishes for sushi, local delicacies, dim sum, dessert and no shortage of libations. There were also dancers (floor and pole), drinking games, various other types of ‘shows’ and, oh yeah, a midget (little person, actually, but we’re following Playboy’s lead here), before everyone finished the night in the jacuzzi.

CoinGeek.com cannot recommend BB Experience highly enough to anyone looking to host a thoroughly memorable event, and who wants to pay for that event with Bitcoin Cash, the only Bitcoin variant that remains true to the original vision of Satoshi Nakamoto. (Come for the dancing girls, stay for the low transaction fees and swift processing time.)

CoinGeek staffers would also like to thank the fine folks at the Soiftel Bangkok Hotel for having that defibrillator on standby. Also, has anyone seen our pants?

Note: Tokens on the Bitcoin Core (segwit) Chain are Referred to as BTC coins. Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is today the only Bitcoin implementation that follows Satoshi Nakamoto’s original whitepaper for Peer to Peer Electronic Cash. Bitcoin BCH is the only major public blockchain that maintains the original vision for Bitcoin as fast, frictionless, electronic cash.

CoinGeek takes a pre-emptive stand against dishonest practices

Miners are the heart of Bitcoin, and CoinGeek will work to protect the network from bad actors by taking a pre-emptive stance against dishonest practices like double-spending. To date, a double spend has not happened on the Bitcoin Cash network and we want to be sure it never will.

A message from CoinGeek founder Calvin Ayre:

“CoinGeek mining systems will reject blocks that are clearly generated by attacks. If a transaction is hidden from the network to create a double spend by other miners to steal funds, we will reject this.

We support honest mining and competition.

Transactions from honest miners propagate. When a transaction is hidden, this is easily detected with clear evidence that is digitally signed. CoinGeek is taking a pre-emptive stand to let the Bitcoin Cash community know that we will not tolerate dishonest practices and we will work to combat criminal actions.

Profit is best derived from long-term investment and we won’t stand for criminals attempting to game the system for short-term gain.

We believe that all current miners would support us in an honest majority.”

The risk of double-spending is unique to cryptocurrencies. In the Bitcoin Cash network, there is a near-impossible chance of a double-spend happening but risk increases as transactions are chained.

Selfish mining could lead to the centralization of mining operations, with a so-called majority group calling the shots on who can mine, who can’t mine and even which transactions will be confirmed on the network.

Now, this scenario wouldn’t result from “evil” miners. But there is a real danger of this happening through the efforts of groups who want to take power away from miners by changing the proof of work system in place on the network or other nefarious ideas.

The nChain Group, a leading blockchain technology research and development company, will be releasing free merchant technology to monitor these types of illicit activities for Bitcoin Cash.

We believe that all current miners would support us in an honest majority.

New resort development announced by the Government of Antigua & The Ayre Group

A new and unique five star resort in Antigua was announced by the Ayre Group today. The development is located on the Valley Church beach and design work is already underway, with works scheduled to commence on site in late summer of 2018.

The announcement was made by His Excellency Calvin Ayre, the Chairman of The Ayre Group, who also acts as Special Economic Envoy for the Government of Antigua and Barbuda. Hon. Ayre warmly thanked the Prime Minister, The Hon. Gaston Browne, and all of the Government departments which have offered valuable support to the development in its progress to date.

Hon. Ayre said, “In my discussions with Government about the project we agreed that the new resort was very much in keeping with the government’s strategy for further upscale tourism development. This resort will attract a totally new market segment of tourism on the island – successful wellness seekers who also want to have fun. The property will not be an all-inclusive destination, instead, its amenities will be available to residents of Antigua and Barbuda and visitors alike. I am confident that the type of guest we will attract will wish to explore Antigua – its culture and history, as well as all of our many diverse attractions and activities. We are focused on creating for a very special market, a world-class resort and unforgettable experience, but also one which benefits the broader economy across the whole island.”

Prime Minister, the Hon. Gaston Browne welcomed the new development and said, “We expect the resort’s novel and exciting concept to broaden Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism product and bring a new category of tourists to our islands. Furthermore, the additional resort rooms will help drive an increased number of airline seats to Antigua, further boost the island’s tourism profile, and expand our economy. We look forward to working with Mr. Ayre on this resort and the many other investments he has made in Antigua.”

The resort is envisaged as the first of several similar Ayre Resort branded properties to be developed around the world. These will all incorporate an Ayre Wellness Centre and Spa and a Bodog Casino Club, in addition to other more common resort facilities. The Antigua property is designed with multiple bars and restaurants, as well as a convention centre and lively beach club.  The resort’s hotel accommodations is planned to consist of 80 oversized studio suites and 30 luxurious one bedroom suites. In addition, 8 luxury condominiums, 8 spacious town houses and 3 stunning villas will be offered for sale.

All of the Ayre Resorts will accept Bitcoin Cash at point of sale terminals on the properties and through its online booking engine. Bitcoin Cash has been selected as the exclusive cryptocurrency of the Ayre Resorts because it is the only cryptocurrency that has low transaction fees and unrestrained scalability.

Bitcoin BCH entrepreneur, Calvin Ayre, goes mining!

An early and vocal advocate of Bitcoin BCH, Antiguan citizen Calvin Ayre, has now taken the inevitable next step in his investment into the cryptocurrency by opening up his first mining operation.

Most of those with a long history of Bitcoin adoption are now of the view that BCH is the only genuine low-fee, peer-to-peer digital currency. With that vision in mind Ayre has invested significantly in both hardware and software in order to build the ‘hash rate’ of BCH and highlight the all-important scalability of the chain. Ayre will mine only Bitcoin BCH, the one true Bitcoin that follows the original Satoshi White paper.

The new mining operation will be under the same brand as Ayre Media’s recently purchased Bitcoin news portal, CoinGeek.com. CoinGeek.com just launched its new website and focuses on Bitcoin Commerce (bComm), which means, Bitcoin BCH, as the only technology positioned for this function.

Ayre explains: “This is the first step in a whole host of activity in the BCH space that we are rolling out this year. For instance, we are also embarking on a full merchant adoption marketing program. This will help educate not only those who have already embraced the now-dysfunctional, legacy Segwit Coin but also those who are thinking of taking the plunge for the first time; that BCH is the only option for low-fee micro-payments. This will include the industry’s first bComm merchant adoption conference in Hong Kong, May 18th at the Four Seasons.” [CoinGeek.com Conference].

Bitcoin BCH offers secure, reliable, low cost micro-transactions and in 2018 will prove itself to be “the one” that can do it all.
